Reviewing the Blue-Brand's Independence Day Celebrations!
AJ Styles vs. Chad Gable: WWE seems to be experimenting with a solo career for Gable as they pushed him for this match. The match was exciting since the beginning as Gable resorted to his 'Graeko-Roman' style while AJ Styles tried to combat him. Gable showed amazing strength for a guy his size. The match was a good back and forth one as both brought out quite a bit in the other. AJ Styles, as always, carried the entertainment factor here. He pulled off a few amazing moves, but Gable dealt with those with equal finesse. In the end, AJ Styles picked up the victory and booked his place in the Battle Royal later in the night. Chad Gable earned the respect of AJ Styles, and this probably seals the fact that American Alpha have a very debatable future ahead as a team.
Naomi vs Lana: This was a short match of the sort that it can actually be counted among the shortest ones. Naomi makes quick work of Lana as she taps out. After her win, Tamina comes out to somewhat protect Lana and takes her backstage alongwith her.
Naomi's championship reign is becoming very stale with every passing day and the division needs a new champion desperately. Perhaps, it is high time they give it over to Charlotte.

Cena Returns: The 16-time World Champion is finally back after a long summer. And how! Just as he enters, the crowd comes alive! The last time we saw this was when Shane McMahon had returned. He runs into the ring, and quickly addresses the WWE Universe. He's all fired up and because it's Independence Day, no other return could've meant as much. He immediately makes note of the fact that he's been labelled as the part-time mascot of WWE and rubbishes those claims to state that he is an "All-timer". He also talks about the controversial "Free Agent" tag and goes on to say that if his time is limited, he is going all guns blazing. He drops a few names: Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Randy Orton, Jinder Mahal and is ready to fight'em all. He also states that he has nothing to lose and that is why he is even more dangerous now.
Rusev enters and interrupts Cena, as we see a repeat of their storied rivalry of USA vs Bulgaria and how Rusev hasn't got his Comeback Promos, where Cena has. The segment ends with Cena challenging Rusev to a Flag Match, however, Rusev refuses and states that he will fight on his time and on his conditions.
Cena surely knows how to light up the arena whenever he is present. This is why, he is still their top merchandise seller. Nobody out there can take him on when he's on the mic. In the current era, the only superstar who can actually go up to his level is Seth Rollins. Cena was on fire and he truly is the "Face that Runs the Place".

"Carmella-bration": Carmella walks out with her Money in the Bank briefcase and James Ellsworth and addressed the WWE Universe. She states that everyone except her (and Ellsworth, ofcourse!) doubted that she really had it in her to pick up the win last week and become the second Women's MITB winner. Naomi walks (rather dances) out with her newly LED-embedded Women's Title, which surely looks appealing. She states that she is always ready for whatever the challenge is (like a mainstream babyface), and points out that Ellsworth(less) needs to be informed about a few things. Out comes the GM, Daniel Bryan and bans Ellsworth from the arena, like last week. Additionally, he fines him USD 10K and suspends him for 30 days, and says that if these are not followed, Carmella will be stripped of her opportunity. Carmella and Ellsworth rush out.

Baron Corbin and Shinsuke Nakamura have an altercation backstage, only to be separated in a short time.
New Day vs The Usos (Rap Battle): Wasn't bad, wasn't good. It can be considered as a filler with Wale MC-ing the entire segment. A few sly remarks here and there kept up the entertainment quotient. I felt The Usos were way funnier than The New Day, however, Wale thought otherwise.

Aiden English vs Randy Orton: Orton interrupts English during his song (supposedly), picking up from where we left last week. English is pissed off with Orton barging in and cheap-shots him with a mic. He tosses Orton out of the ring and goes back to singing before Orton comes back into the ring. The match had finally been officiated as both the superstars fought. Orton literally dared the referee to DQ him when he suplexed him on the announce table and then hit a DDT. Orton was just looking to beat someone up here, and who better to bully than a wrestler singing on live TV?
Jinder Mahal comes out with the Singh Brothers only to mock Orton and vilify the United States. Orton promises to own his ass in the Punjabi Prison Match.

Battle Royal for #1 Contender for the US Title: Bringing back the mid-card title into prominence, this was a great move by Creative. The match involving 15 superstars - Konnor, Viktor, Fandango, Tyler Breeze, Mojo Rawley, Zack Ryder, Sin Cara, Jason Jordan, Erick Rowan, Tye Dillinger, Dolph Ziggler, Luke Harper, AJ Styles, Sami Zayn and Primo- started off with the obvious brawl. The match had seen the customary surprise elimination in Dolph Ziggler, the entertainment in Fandango trying to save Breeze and the usual backstabbing in Mojo Rawley eliminating Zack Ryder, only to be eliminated himslef. Fast-forward, we come down to Dillinger, Styles and Zayn, as the three fight it out for the opportunity. Dillinger came real close to pulling it off for a surprise win but got eliminated later. Down to Zayn and Styles, these guys brought it out and showed what the opportunity meant. Styles picked up a hard fought win, only to be ambushed by Owens while he was still down. However, he made it back up and forced Owens to retreat as he held the US Title.
This segment was incredible due to the fact that after a long time, a mid-card title has risen above a main-event title. WWE Creative is doing amazing things with SmackDown Live! A tightly-packed show with equal amounts of entertainment and fillers, WWE is bringing back viewership ratings.
